Terms of Service

Agreement and operator

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Stephen Cuellar, the individual operator of Nori + Rice. By downloading, accessing, or using Nori + Rice, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Questions can be sent to noriandriceapp@gmail.com.

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter this agreement to use Nori + Rice. An adult parent, guardian, or caregiver may use the service to review recipes for someone in their care. You are responsible for providing accurate account information, protecting access to your account and device, and promptly reporting suspected unauthorized access.

Recipe-review tool; not medical care

Nori + Rice is a recipe-review aid, not medical advice. Results may be incomplete or incorrect, and no matches found does not mean a recipe or product is safe for you. Always review the original recipe, read current ingredient and advisory labels, assess manufacturing and kitchen cross-contact, and follow the plan provided by your allergist or medical professional. If you are unsure, do not use the ingredient or eat the food.

Nori + Rice is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. It does not provide emergency services or create a doctor-patient or other healthcare-professional relationship. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, and an appropriate allergy action plan. If you believe someone is experiencing an allergic reaction or other emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.

No guarantee of safety

Nori + Rice reviews only the information available to it. It cannot confirm product formulations, substitutions, serving sizes, manufacturing practices, restaurant practices, or kitchen cross-contact. Ingredients, labels, websites, and recipes can be incomplete or change without notice. A result that reports no matches or uses language such as “free from,” “safe,” or “no concerns found” is not a certification that food is allergen-free or safe for a particular person.

Your responsibility

You are solely responsible for checking original recipes, current product labels and advisory statements, manufacturer guidance, preparation conditions, cross-contact risks, substitutions, and the medical plan provided by your qualified healthcare professional before preparing, serving, or consuming food. Do not rely on Nori + Rice as your only source of safety information.

AI-generated results

Recipe extraction, allergy matches, explanations, and suggested alternatives may be produced with artificial intelligence and may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, or invented details. Nori + Rice does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI output. Independently verify every result and every suggested alternative before use.

Limited license

Subject to these terms, Nori + Rice grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to install and use the app for your own noncommercial recipe organization and review. The service is licensed, not sold. No other rights are granted.

Recipe imports and third-party content

Only submit recipe links or content for personal, noncommercial use when you own the content, have permission to use it, or are otherwise legally entitled to submit and process it. You are responsible for complying with the source website's terms and applicable copyright and other laws. Do not use Nori + Rice to republish, distribute, sell, or exploit another person's recipe content.

Nori + Rice may retrieve recipe information from public webpages at your direction. Availability through a public webpage does not mean that Nori + Rice or you own that content. Nori + Rice does not grant you rights in third-party recipes, photographs, writing, trademarks, websites, or other materials, and may limit or remove access when necessary to address a rights complaint or legal obligation.

Your content and processing permission

You retain any rights you already have in recipe text, notes, links, feedback, and other content you submit. You represent that you have the rights and permissions needed to submit that content and that it does not violate law or another person's rights.

You grant Nori + Rice a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, retrieve, format, transmit, analyze, and display your submitted content only as reasonably necessary to provide, secure, troubleshoot, and support the service. This license ends when the content is deleted, except for temporary backups and copies retained as described in the Privacy Policy or required by law. It does not authorize Nori + Rice to publish your private recipes, use them in advertising, or opt them into AI model training.

Acceptable use

You may not misuse Nori + Rice or help anyone else do so.

• Use the service unlawfully or to violate another person's rights
• Submit malicious code, deceptive requests, or content you are not entitled to use
• Probe, disrupt, overload, bypass, or interfere with security or access controls
• Reverse engineer, scrape, copy, or commercially exploit the service except where law expressly permits it
• Misrepresent Nori + Rice output as medical advice, professional guidance, or a guarantee of food safety
• Use automated means to access the service beyond normal personal use without written permission

Nori + Rice ownership and feedback

Nori + Rice and its original software, design, branding, and content are owned by Stephen Cuellar or the applicable licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. If you voluntarily provide product feedback or suggestions, you grant Nori + Rice permission to use them without restriction or compensation, provided the feedback is not presented publicly as an endorsement by you.

Third-party services and links

Nori + Rice depends on services provided by Google Firebase, Apple, Google, OpenAI, PostHog, Resend, Gmail, app stores, and recipe-source websites. Their services and content may be governed by separate terms and privacy policies. Nori + Rice does not control and is not responsible for third-party websites, content, availability, or practices.

Service changes, suspension, and termination

Nori + Rice may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features and may impose reasonable limits to maintain security, reliability, legal compliance, or service availability. Access may be suspended or terminated if you materially violate these terms, misuse the service, create risk or legal exposure, or if the service is discontinued. You may stop using Nori + Rice at any time and may delete your account in Settings.

Provisions that by their nature should continue after termination—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, dispute terms, and permissions needed for retained records—will survive.

Disclaimer of warranties

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NORI + RICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AVAILABILITY, SECURITY, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some exclusions may not apply to you.

Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, STEPHEN CUELLAR AND NORI + RICE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOST DATA, PROFITS, OR OPPORTUNITIES; OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON RECIPE, ALLERGY, SUBSTITUTION, OR AI INFORMATION, EVEN IF ADVISED THAT SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE.

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE TOTAL LIABILITY OF STEPHEN CUELLAR AND NORI + RICE FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE DURING THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM OR US $100. These limitations do not exclude liability that cannot legally be limited, and your jurisdiction may provide additional rights.

Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Stephen Cuellar and Nori + Rice from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable expenses arising from your unlawful misuse of the service, your violation of these terms, or content you submit in violation of another person's rights. This obligation does not apply to the extent a claim was caused by Nori + Rice's own unlawful conduct.

Privacy and account deletion

The Privacy Policy explains how Nori + Rice handles information. You can withdraw future AI-sharing permission under Settings → Safety and AI, disable product analytics in Settings, and delete your account and associated Firebase information under Settings → Account, subject to the retention exceptions described in the Privacy Policy.

App marketplace terms

If you obtained Nori + Rice through Apple App Store or Google Play, the applicable marketplace terms also apply. The marketplace provider is not responsible for Nori + Rice support or services except as required by its terms or applicable law. Apple's standard end-user license agreement applies where applicable, and Apple and Google may enforce provisions intended for their benefit as permitted by their marketplace terms.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the law where you live requires otherwise. Before filing a formal claim, you agree to send a description of the dispute to noriandriceapp@gmail.com and allow 30 days for an informal resolution. If the dispute is not resolved, either party may bring a claim in a court with lawful jurisdiction. Nothing in these terms prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief or using an eligible small-claims process.

General terms

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning your use of Nori + Rice unless a separate written agreement applies. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms without permission; Nori + Rice may assign them in connection with a permitted transfer of the service.

Changes and contact

These terms may be updated as the service changes. The updated date will be posted with the revised terms, and material changes may receive additional notice when reasonably appropriate. Continued use after revised terms take effect means you accept them; if you do not agree, stop using the service and delete your account. Questions can be sent to noriandriceapp@gmail.com.
